Hi I’m Jo, I’m mum to two gorgeous girls and our black Labrador Poppy. We live in the outskirts of Edinburgh at the base of the Pentland Hills. I feel very lucky to have so much natural beauty on our doorstep to explore which keeps my heart full and my feet grounded.

My passion is working with women to help them achieve an optimal state of health and well-being. I use my specialist training in Arvigo Therapy combined with my other training, in particular Nutritional Medicine, to assist on this journey.

The well-being of others, and of myself, is the driving force behind what I do. I really thrive on working one and one with clients and seeing the amazing changes that happen.

My journey to this work

I had been working as a complementary health therapist for a few years and had found my way back to Scotland. Living back at home with my mum, who was suffering with a lot of digestive problems meant that I started to look for a local therapist for her. This is when I came across Alison, the only therapist at that time practising Arvigo Therapy in Scotland and one of the first women to train with our teacher Dr Rosita Arvigo. As soon as I read Allison’s leaflet there was an instant connection to this work and I knew in that moment that this was what I was supposed to do next.

The universe took care of things and I was able to attend the first self care course in Scotland and then go on to do my professional training in Surrey. The following year I went to Colorado to do my certification and advanced training. I love the science and the origins of this therapy; a beautiful collaboration of traditional healing techniques with Dr Rosita’s training. My gut told me from the beginning that this is what I was meant to do, I am so glad I listened, it changed my life.

Becoming a mum also greatly impacted my direction with this work and while I know that everyone would benefit from having abdominal therapy my clinical interest is in improving women’s health at each stage of our life.

One of my own personal interests in working on the abdomen, (apart from all the positive physiological benefits!) is our relationship with our tummies. It fascinates me that we as a society have such a poor relationship with this area of the body that does so much.

It is the centre of ourselves, it can create and grow life…and yet it is rare to find someone who loves their belly exactly as it is. A lot of us on some level view it purely on aesthetics, and it just never quite matches up to our idea of what we’d like. However, what interests me isn’t what our tummies look like, what I am interested in is what it feels like. What it feels like for you to tune right into how your tummy feels, physically, emotionally and energetically. When you do, it is a very powerful thing.

We hide a lot in our abdomens, we bury things deeply to pretend we are okay, but they don’t go away. I believe this disconnect harnesses our ability to listen to our intuition, to trust our gut, to tune out our needs and when we do that we can not fully care for ourselves.

One of the reasons why I think Abdominal therapy is so effective is in part this re-tuning process, reconnecting to ourselves and of course we then fall back in love with our bellies and our relationship with ourselves changes.

I welcome you to begin this journey, you’ll never look back.
